Zahořany - Cesta časem a prostorem – Pátek Jakub (2021)

The collective monograph focuses on the rural locality of Zahořany near Litoměřice. Until the 19th century, it represented the administrative center of an extensive estate, whose residences were scattered in the northeastern part of the Czech Central Mountains. In the first part, the authors invite the readers on a journey through seven centuries of the historical development of Zahořany: they focus primarily on the personalities of the most significant feudal holders and the history of the village after the demise of the patrimonial administration, as well as on issues of the economic functioning of the former estate, spiritual administration, and education. In the second part, the reader can embark on a retrospective journey through the space of Zahořany: first, the character of the local cultural landscape and the urban development of the village is presented, where interesting examples of traditional rural architecture have been preserved to this day. Detailed attention is given to the pair of the most significant Zahořany monuments. The first is the Church of the Holy Trinity, which creates a striking dominant feature of the village – an undervalued gem of early Baroque architecture of significant regional importance. The second is the Zahořany Castle, whose form interestingly reflects the complex architectural development from the waning Renaissance to the period of Classicism.
