Description
The topic of the publication is the enthronements – the inauguration of the bishops of Hradec Králové in the second half of the 17th century and in the 18th century. The authors examine the transformations that the enthronement ceremonies underwent and how these changes were related to the overall religious situation. The aim was also to indicate how the relationships between the city and the bishopric evolved: this was particularly evident in the degree of the city's involvement in the ceremonies. Church celebrations at the turn of the Baroque and Enlightenment underwent significant changes, or rather were reduced to a minimum in the second half of the 18th century. The relationship of the bishops to the pope, the Roman Curia, and the monarchs also changed – it heavily depended on the individual bishops' inclination towards the ideas of Enlightenment and Josephinism. The publication also addresses whether and how these changes manifested in the enthronements of bishops in Hradec Králové.
