Description
Vladimír Karfík (October 1, 1931, České Budějovice), literary historian, critic, editor, and publisher. In the 1960s, he worked as an editor at Literární noviny, and from 1990 to 1999, he was their editor-in-chief. In his critical work, he focused on many significant Czech authors, particularly poets (Jiří Kolář, Jaroslav Seifert, Ivan Wernisch, Bohumil Hrabal, Vilém Závada, Karel Šiktanc, and others). Due to his extraordinary ability to sensitively understand and interpret literary works, along with his moderate and clear style, he is considered one of the most important figures in this field. His work has enriched our literature of the last half-century with its distinct principledness and nobility.
