Pavel Mervart Living in an environment deeply permeated by sensuality and maintaining a clean slate has never been easy for anyone. However, it seems that achieving this goal is particularly difficult for today's adolescent youth for many reasons. One of the significant obstacles on the path to fully free and balanced humanity may be self-gratification. A number of different works have already been published on this phenomenon; however, there is still no more systematic theological-pastoral study in the Czech context. The presented work aims to at least partially fill this gap. It strives for a comprehensive view of the examined issue, which it presents from the perspective of developmental psychology, the Holy Scriptures, the Tradition of the Church, including the most important documents of its magisterium, general history, etc. However, it does not want to be merely a theological treatise. It also addresses questions of education and human formation in various states of life, providing relevant case studies. The main goal and desire of the author is to help all Christian readers form a solid judgment on the matter and provide them with useful recommendations for a genuine life of faith. ----- ThLic.
