Description
The collection 'Being a Book and Opening Up in Your Hands' is a selection from the works of five contemporary Slovak poets. Their poetics do not differ significantly from verses of Czech provenance, perhaps only notably in that the Danube occasionally flits through them, recalling the great models of Slovak poetry. The selection of authors is interesting. The poetics of Štefan Cifra and Ján Tazberík are miles apart—from Cifra's belief in the redemption of man through art to the original surreal imagination in the work of Ján Tazberík. The verses of Oľga Gluštíková offer a specific, extraordinary perspective on the corporeality of the being designated by the word woman, while in the verses of Etela Farkašová, a strong intellect dominates against the backdrop of a delicate female subject. Miroslav Bielik represents poetry that is convincing, masculine, rooted in the ancestors' roots, reflecting the giants of Slovak and European poetry. All five poets have something to say not only to their nation but also to the receptive Czech recipient of non-speculative poetic creation.
