Bronislava Volková spent most of her active creative life in American exile as a professor of Czech and Slavic studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. Prior to that, she also taught at universities in Cologne and Marburg. Since the 1980s, when she began publishing with the Munich publishing house Poezie mimo Domov (PmD) / Poetry Abroad, her poems have been taken up by a number of translators.
