Description
A significant yet previously overlooked urban planner, designer, and architect of East Bohemian modernism, Oldřich Liska (1881–1959) worked from 1908 to 1947 in four design offices in Hradec Králové. During his career, he was the author of the largest number of architectural realizations in Hradec Králové during the interwar period. In this city, he also became a co-author of several urban studies, which he later developed in other municipalities in the region (e.g., Pardubice, Třebechovice pod Orebem, Polička, Jaroměř, Kostelec nad Orlicí, Náchod). The main focus of Liska's work in the 1920s was the realization of blocks of emergency residential buildings. Other important aspects of the architect's work include innovative designs for schools with so-called hall layouts in the East Bohemian countryside; the designer's ability to adapt well to the latest architectural fashion trends is also noteworthy.
