Monuments and memorial plaques to the victims of the First World War in the Náchod district. The monuments, memorial plaques, and cenotaphs located in our municipalities express a solemn remembrance of those who did not return to their homes and laid down their lives in the Great War of 1914–1918. Each name on the monument, memorial plaque, and in the chronicler's record carries a human story, reminds us of the pain of loss, and serves as a memory of the deceased, who had their place in the family, community, and society, but was not given the chance to fulfill their life’s destiny. They fell, they died – let us keep their name in our memory. The authors of this book aimed to find, document, and describe the form, condition, and history of all the monuments and memorial plaques commemorating the First World War in the territory of the present-day Náchod district. The preparation of the book began with searching for and gathering materials, along with obtaining photographic documentation of individual monuments, exploring municipal, school, parish, association, and private memorial books and chronicles, and searching for archival documents. The lives of the inhabitants at the outbreak of the war, during the war years, and the growing tragedy of the entire war period were also of interest.
