Description
The subject of the book is the anthropological and ethnological examination of the human body and corporeality. The publication by a collective of authors focuses on body modifications, discussions about the boundaries of the human body, and the differences between human beings and machines. It loosely follows the title Body: to smell, to comb, to touch, to pierce, to cut (2014). The book Body 2.0 builds on theories of the body and corporeality that have developed in the human, social, and cultural sciences since the early 20th century. Individual chapters address eating disorders, scalping, differences between humans and machines, functional body modifications, and the performance of extreme modifications. The chapters are unified by the theme of pain and the transgression of the boundaries of the human body.
