Description
Catechetics is a field of study at the intersection of theology and pedagogy. It is practice-oriented and therefore belongs to pastoral theological disciplines. As a theological field, it examines the way God interacts with humanity, reflects on it, and establishes principles, contents, and methods for the Church's catechetical influence in the education of Christian faith. Although interest in this field is currently rather minimal, readers of the book may be surprised by how vibrant events can be discovered in the relatively recent past and how many interesting and valuable approaches and paths can inspire us even today. The study maps a period of more than seventy years: it characterizes this period, provides overviews of catechetics teachers at theological faculties, and presents their work, attempting to highlight the ways of searching as well as the found and verified paths. It includes the work of not only specialized catecheticians but also other Czech theologians who were compelled by challenging social conditions to engage in pastoral practice. The influence of foreign authors is also captured, whose works were translated and made available in the form of samizdat. After all, history is an irreplaceable teacher, and its exploration is an adventure that can engage a broader audience if they care about faith education.
