Description
The presented publication seeks to demonstrate the role played by the Premonstratensian Order in Nová Říše and its surroundings during the First Republic. The monastery managed its agricultural and forest lands efficiently. Its revenues benefited not only its owners and employees but also other entrepreneurs and craftsmen as well as the community itself. It had a significant impact on employment in the region, especially during the economic crisis. The monastery played an important role in charitable, social, and cultural areas. It was also active in education, enlightenment, and culture. Lastly, but not least in significance, we mention pastoral or spiritual care. The monastery, whose monks held masses, baptized, confessed, married, and buried, became an integral part of the everyday and festive life of all the inhabitants of the village and the surrounding area. The wide range of activities of the Premonstratensians corresponds to the order's motto Ad omne opus bonum parati - Prepared for every good work. The authors of this publication sought to show that the Premonstratensians of Nová Říše during the First Republic were not only prepared for every good work but also accomplished many good deeds or contributed to them.
