Description
The second volume presents researchers in the social sciences and human sciences. American anthropologist and physician of Czech origin Aleš Hrdlička (1869–1943) is primarily known for his theory of a unified origin and development of humans or the settlement of the American continent from Asia. He will be introduced by Marco Stella, curator of the Hrdlička Museum of Man. This is followed by a portrait of biologist and philosopher Emanuel Rádl (1873–1942), whose social significance will be conveyed by the descendants of his close colleague Jaroslav Šimsa (1900–1945). Economist Lubomír Mlčoch (born 1944) will discuss the work of economist, First Republic Minister of Finance, and Governor of the National Bank Karel Engliš (1880–1961). The Renaissance figure Zdeněk Horský (1929–1988), a historian of natural sciences, will be presented by astrophysicist and astronomer Jiří Grygar, philosopher Stanislav Sousedík, and classical philologist and philosopher Filip Karfík. Another section discusses the most significant Czech philosopher Jan Patočka (1907–1977). As a contemporary thinker, he will be introduced by Sorbonne professor Renaud Barbaras and his doctoral student Eliška Luhanová.
