Color represents one of the traditional philosophical problems that has been and continues to be examined from various perspectives, in different contexts and situations. Ondřej Beran approaches this issue from the perspective of the philosophy of the 'turn to language' and shows how analytical philosophy or the philosophy of language addresses questions that may arise in connection with colors. His primary interest lies in the laws governing our use of words for colors and the sentences that contain them. He focuses on the logical forms or structures of statements about colors and attempts to capture their general laws and philosophical status. On one hand, he examines the possibilities of formally capturing laws—such as the fact that nothing can be both red and green— as universally valid, while on the other hand, he emphasizes the importance of empirical study of colors. The way we talk about colors differs not only from language to language (the structure of the vocabulary of modern Western languages is significantly different from languages that are culturally or historically distant from them) but also from context to context.
