Description
Part one detailed the changes in spelling that pertain to the early years of Silesia's integration with the Bohemian Crown. This overview covers works from the 14th century up to the year 2010. It also attempts to explain the reasons for the misunderstanding of essential political issues that existed among generations of researchers. In the second part, an attempt was made to explain why, in the mid-14th century, the public space of the city of Wrocław was so heavily infused with Bohemian state symbolism. The answer lies in the fact that Emperor Charles IV, in reference to Wrocław and without yet having a son, secured the succession to the Bohemian throne for his brother John Henry and his children. In this way, he avoided the Prague center (the Bohemians held the privilege of electing the king) and thereby created Wrocław as the bearer of the succession in the Bohemian Crown. This also explains the presence – on the emperor's majesty seal from 1355 – of the monogram W as the symbol of the city (Wratislavia) and not of St. Wenceslaus, as has been thought until now...
