Description
The book is dedicated to the aesthetic thinking of several significant French philosophers from the second half of the 20th century. It shows that despite their considerably different starting points, we find a number of converging features in their concepts, particularly the understanding of the aesthetic event as sensory, that is, as 'aisthesis'. Utilizing the ideas of these authors, the monograph characterizes the nature of the aesthetic realm as an event in the strong sense of the word, as emergence and as a process, in which neither the objects related to the emergence and process are present, nor the subject to whom this emergence or process reveals itself as experience. As a result, the aesthetic event has a timeless nature. However, the book also emphasizes that despite this absence of objects and subjects and its timelessness, the aesthetic event possesses a specific way of organization.
