Description
The publication contains nine selected essays by two prominent figures in German and Czech literary studies and Germanistics, Kurt Krolop and Jiří Stromšík. Both authors brilliantly present key figures of German literary romanticism from its beginnings (Bonaventura, Novalis) through Brentano, de la Motte-Fouqué, the Brothers Grimm, Kleist, and Chamisso to its late period (Tieck, E.T.A. Hoffmann). This way, the reader can become acquainted with the work of two significant personalities in Czech-German literary studies and Germanistics. At the same time, they have the opportunity to glimpse for the first time within a single book one of the most important periods in German literary history. Finally, the individual essays also convey essential historical contexts both within the German culture of the given period and its Czech reception.
