Medicína mezi jedinečným a univerzálním – Fischerová Sylva (2013)

The publication aims to present the unique character of medicine as a discipline straddling both the natural and humanities sciences, operating on the basis of universally applicable laws, yet constantly confronted with the singularity represented by the unique and unrepeatable personality of each patient, but naturally also of the doctor. The theme is illuminated from various aspects that represent the relationship between health and illness, between patient and doctor, between medicine and other sciences, between theory and therapy, between an individual therapeutic approach based on personal experience, empathy, and intuition, and the 'impartial' or 'objective' approach of medical science. The individual studies, authored by renowned researchers and doctors as well as emerging scientists, embrace a wide temporal range from Hippocrates to the present and offer insights into the philosophy and history of medicine, anthropology, and epistemology, as well as exceptionally interesting reflections from the sphere of contemporary medical practice (psychiatry, geriatrics, systems medicine); these reflections often touch on the very foundations of the functioning of the current biomedical complex.
