The book 'Possibilities of Reading' offers an interpretation of the work of Karolina Světlá against the backdrop of the discourse of Czech literary criticism in the second half of the 19th century. The author focuses on contemporary approaches to the forms and functions of national literature, addressing the issues of the tasks placed on the Czech writer. In relation to Karolina Světlá's prose, he raises the question of the extent to which this 'social order' could influence individual artistic handwriting. He is interested in the problem of both authorial and readerly reflection on the patriotic educational tendencies of literary creation. This contemporary acceptance of such tendencies as a factor that pre-sets the formation of meaning in the artistic work in a desirable (not limiting) way is understood as an expression of the legacy of early national revival ideological constructs, as a manifestation of movement in the myth of the resurrected nation - a movement that readers share with their writer within an almost universally accepted communication code.
