The present essay on the life of August Anton Legis-Glückselig (1806-1867) and his work is intended as an introduction. Legis-Glückselig, this versatile researcher and author, active in the fields of linguistics, theology, historical auxiliary sciences, homeland and nobility studies, legal and art sciences, was a typical representative of the learned autodidact, writer-regional researcher, and amateur historian, who, through their diligent work, contributed individual pieces to the mosaic of our historical knowledge of Bohemia. Without them, we would know far less than we can even imagine today.
