The Uherský Brod Symposia of J. A. Comenius in Offensive (1971–1989) This publication presents the history of the Uherský Brod symposia, which became one of the refuges for, if not directly free research, at least free contemplation of significant themes in Czech historiography during the post-August normalization period. The analysis of the circumstances of their emergence and formation focuses primarily on the relationship between Czech historiography and the power strategies for its control from 1948 to 1989. In the first part of this publication, the authors address the formation of the main centers and publication platforms for Comeniology research in Czechoslovakia from 1945 to 1989. The articles by Doubravka Olšáková and Vladimír Urbánek map the development of Czech Comeniology in the center (Prague) and on the periphery (Uherský Brod), where the oversight of official power, or rather official historiography, was significantly weakened. The second part is dedicated to a comparative view of the research methods regarding the early modern period in the Central European context. Among foreign authors, Maciej Górny and Stanislaw Roszak reflect on the status of early modern historiography, while from the Czech side, Marie Koldinská contributes.
