Description
The atmosphere in the Miami courtroom is electric. The agenda includes the incredibly brutal murder of a young, attractive blonde – her body shows clear signs of torture and brutal rape. The accused is a similarly young, handsome, successful, and wealthy man – seemingly unfazed by the charges against him. Assistant State Attorney Daria DeBianchi is initially absolutely certain of his guilt, but she faces a daunting task; she must gather enough evidence to secure a conviction for a capital crime. Helping her is Manny Alvarez, an experienced detective from the Miami homicide department, whose lifestyle and work ethic do not impress Daria much. Together, they manage to ensure that Talbot Lunders is not released on bail, and they have a painfully short time to do thorough work. Just as they begin to get a handle on the case, a short recording surfaces with horrific content – the torture and death of a girl who bears a striking resemblance to the victim of their accused. However, it comes to light that Talbot Lunders could not have committed the murder, as he was in the hospital recovering from surgery at the time in question. Something like déjà vu – the same brutality, the same stigmata on the body of the tortured girl – reminds Manny of an earlier case, which was then unsolved.
