Description
The second part of the Captain Báthory cycle follows the wars against the Ottoman Empire in Hungary, Transylvania, Croatia and the Mediterranean between 1660 and 1664. The year is 1662, and after two years on Turkish galleys, Kornel Báthory is barely a shadow of the man he once was. During the Ottoman fleet’s siege of Crete, however, Báthory meets the Turkish scholar and traveler Evliya Çelebi again. Çelebi buys the Christian knight and poet out of slavery and makes him his assistant on his travels. On the sultan’s own orders, Çelebi must accompany the mysterious vizier Kirmizi Mustafa to remote regions of Syria and perhaps even farther, to the ruins of ancient cities deep in the desert. Whatever the goal of the vizier’s secret mission, it will be a dangerous journey. Pirates, rebels, mysterious assassins and perhaps even enemies unharmed by ordinary weapons lie in wait for Çelebi, Báthory and the others. The book is in Czech.
