Description
The world has changed. In May 1848, the Great Storm occurred. No one knows where it came from or what caused it, but everyone felt the consequences. Ocean levels rose. There is water near Dresden. There is also water beyond Prešov. Rivers flooded, continuous rains destroyed the harvest. People are starving. However, the ideas of national revival persist. When the entire Czech lands are plunged into chaos, bandits roam the countryside, a military dictator has taken control of Prague, and the government in Vienna is missing, the National Alliance steps onto the scene: an association of mayors, industrialists, intellectuals, and above all ordinary people who want to protect their families in the midst of disaster. What began as a coalition of a handful of volunteers aiming to defend the little food they had quickly grows into an army. And it will be needed, for the dictator in Prague cannot tolerate anyone resisting him in the Czech lands. The national revival moves from literary salons to the battlefield.
