Description
Romanian Transylvania is barely a two-hour flight from Central Europe – yet it offers vast areas of nearly untouched mountain nature that have been attracting tourists for years as a somewhat rugged, yet all the more alluring travel magnet. The presented selection of 63 hikes focuses on the northern, Transylvanian side of the Southern Carpathians and also on the area around the city of Brașov, where the Eastern Carpathians connect to the Southern Carpathians. This territory, over 250 km long from west to east, is divided into eight relatively independent mountain units: Retezat, Şureanu, Paring (Parâng), Cindrel, Fagaraș, Piatra Craiului, Postăvarul, and Măgura Codlei. A detailed description of each route or hike is provided in a summary info block of basic practical information. In addition to maps, the guide also includes elevation profiles of the routes and numbered reference points for potential use with a GPS guide. The travel guide is part of the most significant European series of travel guides, Rother.
