Description
The book captivatingly narrates the journey of a modern-day envoy, led by the author Jan Havelka himself, from Blatná in South Bohemia to the capital of Europe, Brussels. This envoy followed the trail of a medieval mission sent in the early second half of the 15th century by Czech King George of Poděbrady to the rulers of Western and Southern European countries. The book successfully conveys impressions from a challenging yet very adventurous journey and interestingly describes the atmosphere of medieval pilgrimage based on quotes from authentic travel diaries of participants Gabriel Tetzl and Václav Šašek from Bířkov. The book also includes numerous photographs and maps illustrating the route of the march. The entire three-month journey, during which the envoy covered an incredible 1,452 km, was organized by the Czech Tourist Club.
