Description

For most Poles, Moravia lies in the shadow of Prague and is easily forgotten. Not so for the poet, essayist, and translator Michał Tabaczyński, who chose this part of our country for his wanderings during the pandemic. He slowly strolls through the streets of Moravian towns and the countryside, discreetly exploring the Moravian soul. He finds a land of great poets - Jan Skácel, Otokar Březina, Jakub Deml, Ivan Blatný - but also a breeding ground for prose writers, as it was from here that Bohumil Hrabal and Milan Kundera set off to the capital. Visionaries lived here, Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichová, the first author of a graphic novel in the world, worked here, as did Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics, and here Tomáš Baťa built his utopian city. This is not just a report about Moravia, but also a literary essay about wandering, essentially a Sebaldian meditation, both apocalyptic and melancholic at the same time.
