Description
Enikő is a sociologist who has just left her husband and is returning from New York to Budapest. She is thirty, ambitious, and holds a position at the university. She wants to write a book titled The Misery of Hungarians. Tamás Bogdán is considered a celebrity in the academic world. The subject of his sociological research is Békásmegyer, a massive socialist-style housing estate on the outskirts of Budapest, with the Magnetic Hill standing as a symbol at its center. Coincidentally, his student Réka grew up here as well. The cleverly written narrative intertwines Tamás's love affair with Enikő and later with Réka. The writer Réka Mán-Várhegyi has also created a vivid portrait of contemporary Hungarian society. This is a readable and humorous love story, but also a profound essay that reflects the author's sociological interest and can alter or completely change our perspective on Hungary and Hungarians.
