Description
They met on vacation by the sea. For years they belonged together, or at least they thought so. They shuttled between Ghent, where he lived, and Antwerp, where she resided. Then it ended. A year has passed, and both are still alone. He sits down and writes her a long letter-not-a-letter. He wants to understand what happened, explain everything, confide, and perhaps save what can be saved. But is it their shared story that he tells? Can he step out of the circle of his own truth? Is it even possible to convey anything meaningful about the romantic relationship of two people? The novella by Belgian writer Christoph Van Gerreweye is surprisingly neither romantic nor touching. It nervously and comically sketches a picture of modern partnership in affluent Western Europe.
