Description
The Last Book uncovers the peculiar friendship of three characters – playwright Monty, who keeps writing the same play over and over in pubs and cafes, antiquarian Perička, for whom it is increasingly difficult to stay grounded in reality, and welder Leopold, who persistently escapes from his wife Matylda. Their grotesque stories intertwine with bizarre snippets of the fates of other characters, who repeatedly emerge and then disappear again. The individual chapters of The Last Book unfold as an antithesis to the creation of the world, as the inner world of the trio of protagonists gradually disintegrates over six days, and under strange circumstances and apocalyptic omens, they sink from lived reality into a world of dreams. The only thing that remains is the archetype of a city as a magical place, populated by both contemporary residents and mythical beings. The setting of The Last Book is the nooks of Brno, particularly its wonderfully charming pubs. Unfortunately, their existence is often so fragile that some of them can no longer be found in the streets of Brno.
