Description

A carefully crafted work translated from the Latin original from 1661, published under the auspices of the Astrological Society of the Czech Republic and edited by Zdeněk Bohuslav. The extensive work of Jean Baptiste Morin was not created easily. The author wrote it himself for more than 30 years, and it was published in print only in 1661, five years after his death, thanks to the interest and financial support of the Polish Queen Luisa Maria Gonzaga. It was written during the time of giants such as Galileo Galilei, Tycho de Brahe, Johannes Kepler, and Placidus de Titi, but also during the time of Pope Urban VIII's bull against astrologers and the growing influence of the ideas of philosopher and natural scientist René Descartes (+1650). The emerging Enlightenment simultaneously strengthened the materialistic view of the world. These cultural-historical circumstances, the large extent (850 pages in A3 format), and the Latin language contributed to the fact that Morin's work was published only once and was not of interest until nearly the end of the 19th century. Only after the revival of astrology in the late 19th century and from the beginning of the 20th century did it gradually begin to be regarded as an inspirational source for today's astrologers.
