Description

Czech-Austrian mystic Petr Klíma-Toušek (1901-1976), whose real name was Petr Klíma, published two books during his lifetime: Secret Figures of the Rosicrucians from the 16th and 17th Centuries (1938) and A Journey into the Depths of the Soul (1947). The rest of the author's extensive work has survived only in the form of typed or cyclostyled samizdat publications, often under a pseudonym. These primarily consist of interpretations of Indian religious and philosophical literature. Light on the West is one of his key works. In it, he openly addresses the theory and practice of Christian mysticism and compares it with spiritual concepts from Eastern cultures. The first version of the book was written in the late 1930s in Vienna, but the author later returned to the text and revised it. The final edit is dated 1963. The book has two parts: the first is interpretative, while the second contains a loose translation of texts on Christian mysticism, allowing readers to gain a basic orientation on the topic. It includes many connections between the spiritual life of humans and the teachings of various esoteric systems, starting with spiritual alchemy and ending with Kabbalah.
