Description
An eyewitness recalls four years spent in the hell of Auschwitz. It might seem that much has already been said about this camp. However, the memories of Stanisław Głowa prove that this topic is still inexhaustible. It never ceases to amaze and shock. Głowa spent almost four years in the camp, and during those years, he managed to gain a better position. Thanks to his skills, agility, and especially favorable circumstances, luck, and friends, he "rose" to higher positions. These allowed him to survive in better conditions, but at the same time offered him greater opportunities to help others and become an observer with a broader perspective, thus enabling him to convey a detailed account of what he witnessed to readers. The author, of course, does not provide a complete picture of camp life; he presents a slice that focuses primarily on the functioning of the camp hospital and its staff. His description is very factual, clear, and authentic. The main text of the book is complemented by the author's memories, which were created for the purposes of the Auschwitz Museum; these notes enrich and expand the described phenomena and events in the camp.
