Description
In Šumava, ten glacial lakes were formed. Two gradually became silted up and completely disappeared. The remaining eight have survived and still showcase their beauty and uniqueness today. On the Czech side of Šumava, there are a total of five glacial lakes: Černé and Čertovo lakes, Prášilské lake, Laka lake, and Plešné lake. On the German side of Šumava, there are three: Malé and Velké Javorské lakes and Roklanské lake. Černé and Čertovo lakes are said to be the most beautiful. This is evidenced by the number of visitors who head towards them. What cannot be denied about the lakes is their mystery and even mysticism. After all, the very name of Čertovo lake offers endless space for human imagination just like Černé lake. Why were they named this way? Perhaps the legends and superstitions that have been told about them for many years will give us some clues...
