Austrian journalist Alexandra Föderlová-Schmid and photographer of German chancellors and other prominent figures Konrad Rufus Müller are the authors of an extraordinary project. In 24 portraits, they depict the harrowing fates of Holocaust survivors. We learn about the horrors they had to face, often as children, after the Nazis came to power and during World War II. The portraits capture remarkable testimonies of people who literally 'went through hell.' Some of them experienced the horrors of several concentration camps. Many told them how incredible it was that they survived. A miracle! This amazement persists among many of them to this day. While some spoke of a miracle, others spoke of luck. The book is essentially a testament from the survivors. The Holocaust is not just history, but also a warning. The witnesses do not want to retell their own stories merely to be recorded, but based on what they experienced, they want to warn others.
