Memories of the wartime and post-war period in northern Bohemia and Šumava were drawn by Erika Zemanová for her book from her own memories and the recollections of her parents about life spent in Chlumec, Žandov, and Dolní Vltavice. In addition to her parents' memories, local witnesses from Chlumec also contributed their recollections from the war and post-war years. It was a difficult time for everyone. Times have changed and a new era has begun. The experiences of those who had to leave their homes after the end of World War II are not joyful, but filled with a sense of grievance. This is their perspective, which they have the right to hold. These people were victims of a time marked by so much injustice and evil. What happened can no longer be undone. Searching for whose fault it is, whose wrongdoing is greater, and blaming old grievances is not the best way to atone for them.
