The Krkonošská region is remarkable not only for its natural beauty but primarily for its people. The selection of witnesses born in the 1920s and 1930s, whose fates we will learn about in the following pages, is not random and smoothly follows the first edition of the fates of Krkonoš natives, their relatives, and close ones. The witnesses are carefully chosen so that through their stories, readers become acquainted with the historical legacy of the region and its relevance to the present. Therefore, the book features voices of men and women from both Czech and German backgrounds and diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The testimonies of the witnesses are sensitively arranged and processed so as not to affect their internal coherence, formal and content uniqueness, and interpretative authenticity. For this reason, colloquial and often vivid language is mostly preserved.
