Description
For thirteen years, Emperor Franz Joseph I. had an intimate relationship with a young Viennese middle-class woman whom he happened to meet one day at six in the morning in Schönbrunn. Anna was sixteen, beautiful, married, and a mother. After many early morning meetings in all kinds of weather in the palace park, the emperor's visits followed at a nearby house that he bought for her. Anna divorced, then remarried, had children, a husband, acquaintances - and yet she managed to keep her relationship with the emperor a secret. She confided only in her diary. Before her death, she handed it over in a sealed package to her youngest daughter, who stipulated in her will that the package could only be opened three years after her death. She died in 1976.
