A roebuck, an irregular six-pointer, stepped onto the glade. Accustomed to a calm and safe place, it didn't even look around much and immediately began to graze. Every now and then, it lifted its head to check its surroundings. The forester Baryška slowly raised his weapon into shooting position. With his finger on the trigger, he searched for the most suitable spot to place the shot. However, for some reason, the roebuck suddenly jumped back. At that moment, the forester was startled to see that he was aiming directly at a person on the opposite side of the clearing. There was a poacher kneeling there, and when the roebuck ran off, he was aiming directly at the forester. In the next moment, the two recognized each other. The forester had the poacher Vojtina Vlček in his sights. The poacher, in turn, had the forester in his sights. Who would pull the trigger first? No one would ever know what was going through the minds of those two at that moment. A living witness would not speak. And a dead one, hidden somewhere in a pit, covered with dirt and brush, would never speak either.
