Description
Sixteen-year-old Vivian has had enough. She's tired of listening to sexist remarks from her classmates, the favoritism shown to the school football team, and the injustices from her homeroom teacher and school administration. Most of all, she's fed up with everyone thinking she's just a nice, obedient girl. When she discovers that her mom was a member of the Riot Grrrl punk movement, she decides to start her own rebellion. She begins anonymously publishing a feminist magazine called The Ruckus and organizing protests, which more and more girls join. Suddenly, Vivian realizes that she has sparked a revolution in her small Texas town. She also finds a new way to connect with herself and her mom, awakening the confident and energetic woman her mother once was. This novel, not just for young readers, is a challenge for anyone who refuses to accept everything as it is. Netflix is preparing a series adaptation directed by Amy Poehler.
