Description
The extensive memoir prose by the world-renowned Israeli author is a book that is exceptional in many ways, and its reception has been equally remarkable. Oz has created his best and most personal work in it, which combines a family saga with the founding of the Jewish state. In tragic and touching episodes, modern history intertwines with the story of a twelve-year-old boy who copes with the fateful blow of his mother's suicide and later leaves home to embark on a difficult path of independent life and artistic maturation in a kibbutz environment. The story of a writer who became an active mover in the political life of his nation is also a unique document about an individual amidst great history.
