Description
Saint George in the picture pokes the dragon in the tail... familiar verses that we all remember, but we find it harder to place them. In this little book, you can find them on page 76. In the early 1980s, the "book God" brought together two top authors. Pavel Šrut (*1940) had already published several poetry collections and more than a dozen children's books by that time. His song lyrics and set-to-music poems made their way into the repertoire of quality Czech musicians – from Vladimír Mišík to Jan Skoumal, Michal Prokop, C&K Vocal, Helena Arnetová, and Luboš Pospíšil. Jiří Šalamoun (*1935) had meanwhile illustrated around 60 books, created dozens of colorful lithographs, an impressive number of film posters, and about ten animated films, including multi-part evening series about Maxipes Fík. Two intelligent creators met, united not only by a specific sense of humor, an interest in nonsense poetry, and exemplary diligence, but also by the positions they each held in their fields – they stood apart from the mainstream, both regarded as indisputable masters whose new works were always welcomed and appreciated by knowledgeable experts. Surely they have much more in common, as they are not only close in their view of the world but also personally.
