Description
The period from 1890 to 1918 is, in many respects, one of the most interesting and yet least explored and generally known in the history of the Czech lands. Their society, economy, science, and culture experienced one of their undeniable peaks, but at the same time, they were rapidly approaching years of an unprecedented deep crisis, marked by the so-called Great War from 1914 to 1918. Its fatefulness is evidenced by the fact that at its end, the more than a thousand-year-old monarchical system in the Czech lands was replaced by a republican form of government.
