Inflace – Lambl Adolf (2012)

The book introduces readers to the emergence of the first inflation at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries in an almost adventurous narrative. This occurred in France, where in 1708 the Scottish economist and adventurer John Law appeared. He convinced the ruling figures, introduced paper banknotes (assignats) and shares, and initiated a wave of speculation that nearly destroyed the French economy. A very instructive work for today's economists, as inflation always lurks around the corner, and some government actions signal that its arrival is not far off.
