Description
The diary of Jindřich Bejl covers the period from July 25, 1914, to June 14, 1920. It records the author's experiences from the Serbian and Russian fronts, captivity, and the formation of Czechoslovak legions in Russia. It subsequently captures the circumstances of the fight against German and Austrian troops, and then the long and exhausting struggle for the safe return of the legions to their homeland, successfully concluded by a voyage from Vladivostok to Trieste. All this against the backdrop of historical events that indelibly influenced not only the creation of our independent state and the post-war arrangement of Russia but also the entire 20th century. The publication is supplemented by a rich photographic accompaniment from the author's archive. Released on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the republic.
