Description
Ruins, remnants, collapsed structures, remains of originally intact human buildings that have deteriorated over time because people lost interest in them, or were damaged as a result of natural disasters or wartime events, all belong to valuable testimonies of our past. Although they are mostly remnants that are no longer maintained and are exposed to the elements, gradually decaying and thus doomed to gradual extinction, they still repeatedly become popular destinations for travelers, sources of inspiration for artists, and subjects of scientific research by experts. Although the word 'ruin' can refer to any dilapidated structure, it most often denotes the remains of former fortified noble residences, such as castles, fortresses, or later palaces. Each of these ruins has its unmistakable, distinctive past and, in connection with the history of the region, gains significant testimonial value. At the same time, they shape the character of the landscape and usually become an unmistakable dominant feature of the characteristic panorama, as in the case of the Bohemian Paradise, which is identified with the silhouette of the ruins of Trosky Castle, or the Mácha Region, whose inseparable part includes the ruins of Bezděz Castle.
