Description
In this book of five short stories, an author previously unknown to the literary arena, yet surprisingly mature, makes his entrance. Petr Zajíček draws his tragicomic tales from life, from the daily hustle and bustle filled with stereotypical banalities and primal needs, yet concealing fragile moments. These are moments of human closeness, sparks of love, chords of harmony and accord. His characters find themselves at a moment when chance sparks a long-buried memory of an emotional experience - a first erotic attempt, a student love, a childhood idyll with an old-world atmosphere, a bitterly grotesque incident from a political exhibition, and it all concludes with a bitter balance of two life failures who each, in their own way, cope with the heartlessness of their surroundings. The author tells their stories without cheap sentiment, in a language that is often harsh, with a tone that is skeptically kind.
