A lie has short legs, Fear has big eyes, Without work, there are no pastries, Old love does not rust, The apple does not fall far from the tree, In trouble, you recognize a friend, He who digs a pit for others falls into it himself, and many other Czech proverbs reveal the wisdom, wit, and poetry of dozens of generations of ancestors, further enhanced by illustrations by Josef Lada. The proverbs, accompanied by short explanatory texts, are intended for reading aloud to children from three years old and for beginning and more advanced readers. They develop logical and intuitive thinking, the ability to understand shortcuts, paradoxes, and moral lessons. They are also suitable for teaching reading and literary education in elementary schools.
