Description
A very timely book addressing the topics of integration, inclusion, and desegregation. The author is Jana Bradley, who has worked as a teaching assistant in both the USA and the Czech Republic. Thanks to her many years of experience, she has the opportunity to compare the issue of inclusion in our country and in the USA. In the first part of the book, she professionally describes her observations from the position of a teaching assistant in a Czech school, interspersing them with her own reflections and stories from her special education experiences in the USA. In the second part, she describes her professional beginnings in the USA and compares the differences in special educational care in the Czech Republic and the USA, offering insights and experiences with the integration of children with disabilities, mentioning the development of professional terminology, the historical development of special education in the USA, particularly the transition from unacceptable segregation through poorly functioning desegregation to very effective integration of children with disabilities. She also discusses alternative and augmentative communication for children who lack the ability to communicate effectively using speech.
