For generations, they have studied the monsters of this world, the so-called cryptids, and have tried to maintain peace and balance between them and the unsuspecting human population. Verity Price knows the responsibility that comes with the family trade, yet she would much rather be dancing than hunting ghosts, ghouls, and demons. That’s why she moved to New York, to fulfill her dream and achieve a career in professional dance before she has to fully immerse herself in the profession of cryptozoologist and self-proclaimed protector of cryptids. Perhaps she could have succeeded if she weren't also dealing with a colony of talking mice, a genius telepathic cousin, fireproof models, and a professional assassin sent to New York by the St. George Convention, an organization that has been pursuing her family for decades. And as if that weren't enough, local cryptids start to suspiciously disappear, mutated lizardmen roam the sewers, and rumors circulate that a dragon sleeps underground.
