Description

The Spanish philosopher Manuel García Morente (1886–1942) was a professor of ethics at the Universidad Central in Madrid from 1912 and served as the undersecretary at the Ministry of Education in Berenguer's government in 1930. From 1931, he held the position of dean at the Faculty of Philosophy, but after the outbreak of the Civil War, he was stripped of his university chair and forced to seek exile in Paris. These dramatic experiences led him to conversion and a profound spiritual transformation. After returning to Spain in 1940, he was ordained as a priest. Morente embodied this experience and what followed in two impressive texts, which are published in this book in a literal transcription. Their publication was carefully prepared by Javier Carballo and was made possible thanks to the consent of the philosopher's younger daughter Carmen García-Morente and with the help of her children Carmen and Emilia Bonelli García-Morente. They were the first to realize the benefits these writings brought to readers, who could experience the same emotion that filled the author while writing them. Perhaps some will hear a similar call to which they became witnesses while reading.
